Reservoir-Triggered Earthquakes Around the Atatürk Dam (Southeastern Turkey)

چکیده

Reservoir-triggered seismicity has been observed near dams during construction, impoundment, and cyclic filling in many parts of the earth. In Turkey, number increased substantially over last decade, with Atatürk Dam being largest dam Turkey a total water capacity 48.7 billion m 3 . After construction dam, monitoring network improved. Considering earthquakes above long-term completeness magnitude M C = 3.5, local rate after reservoir. Recently, two damaging w 5.5 5.1 occurred town Samsat Reservoir 2017 2018, respectively. this study, we analyze spatio-temporal evolution its source properties relation to temporal water-level variations stresses resulting from surface loading pore-pressure diffusion. We find that are anti-correlated, which is explained by stabilization effect gravitational induced stress imposed on faults. On other hand, overall effective seismogenic zone decades due diffusion, explaining enhanced background recent years. Additionally, observe progressive decrease Gutenberg-Richter b-value. Our results indicate stressing finally focused region where 2018.

Heavy metals in mullet, Liza abu, and catfish, Silurus triostegus, from the Atatürk Dam Lake (Euphrates), Turkey.

The distribution of some heavy metals in three different organs of mullet, Liza abu, and catfish, Silurus triostegus, from Atatürk Dam Lake located on Euphrates (Turkey) was studied. Co and Mo concentrations were below limits of detection in all fish organs, whereas Ni was also below limits in organs of mullet. The metal accumulation in the liver and gill of L. abu and S. triostegus was found t...

Earthquakes Around and Mountains the Pacific

Even after a century of intensive study, the problem of the origin of mountain systems remains as possibly the greatest enigma of the earth sciences. Specifically, what is the origin of mountain-building forces, and how are these forces manifested in the crustal rocks of the earth's surface? Field geologists who have studied such classical mountain systems as the Alps and the Appalachians have ...

An Application to Dam-Reservoir Projects

The use of cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the net welfare payoffs from water projects has now been an established practice for many years. One of the interesting aspects of such cost-benefit studies is that water projects involve an uncertain flow of costs and benefits, arising from the stochastic nature of streamflows. Hence a basic problem for the cost-benefit analyst is that of incorporat...
